This traditional Japanese floor rolling bed (shikifuton) is constructed with 3 layers of cotton battings, a layer of supportive foam, and a layer of polyester fiber batting. The mat is designed to be firmer at certain points, providing just enough cushion for a comfortable sleep, especially for people with back pain. It supports your body's natural alignment while you sleep.
Traditionally used on the floor at night, the shikifuton can be rolled up during the day to free up space in the room. It also allows the use of tatami mats for adjusting moisture, making it suitable for a variety of settings.
The mattress is compressed and delivered in a vacuum bag. After opening the vacuum bag, the mattress will fully expand to its original condition. Any wrinkles or corrugations during packaging are normal and can be air-dried for a few hours to resolve.
To keep the mattress in good condition, use a mattress cover sheet or comforter. Washing the cover sheet occasionally and airing the mattress in the sun help maintain freshness. If the futon is stored for a while, ensure it is completely dried and stored in a dry place with covers removed.
When the futon gets dirty, spot clean it and dry it thoroughly. It should not be washed in a washing machine. Consult a dry cleaner or a shikifuton company for professional care.
